Message from President Howard

Pres Howard is having a break in Albany and will be providing us with a message for the next newsletter.
Meeting Guest Speakers

We have some very special presenters coming to our lunch meetings over the next few weeks.  That's not to say that all our speakers are not special but the following have taken Graham a extra effort to get them to our meeting and are well worth listening to.  Please make a special effort to attend and invite family and friends too.

February 21 - Karen Tighe
Most of you will know Karen from ABC Sports but may not know that Karen contracted a viral infection that inflamed her brain.  She will be talking about this and her battle to regain her health.

February 28 - Detective Superintendent Graeme Marshall - Australian Federal Police -  will be speaking about Child Exploitation: A Philippine Perspective and give us an overview of the impact of child exploitation on the Philippines and the international effort, led by the Australian Federal Police and partnered with international agencies.

March 21 - Sara David - Living Child
Sara will be updating us on this project.  As you know Melville Rotary proudly supported Sara's work and it will be interesting to her how Living Child in fairing in the Covid world we now live in.

A full list of speakers and meeting duties can be found by clicking on the Meeting Roster link on the right hand side of this newsletter.
 54 Hole Challenge
in support of Mental Health

Once again David Hewitt put his best feet forward to play 54 rounds of golf in support of Lifeline and Youth Focus. At the end of the event his best feet were very tired and sore feet!!  Well done and congratulations David on your ongoing commitment supporting this project.

Youth Focus is a charity that focuses on providing mental health education and services to our youth. Some of you will remember Nadia Mitsopoulos (ABC Perth) who spoke on behalf of Lifeline at 2021 State conference. What an impact her talk had on us in the audience.

Lifeline and Youth Focus is also well supported by our landlords at the market Hawaiian Group who do the charity ride each year from Albany to Perth.

Thank you letter from Lifeline

Aboriginal Education Scholarships
We are making progress with our education scholarships.  We now have a partnership with Mineral Resources to co fund four scholarships which is very exciting.  Mineral Resources will also fund any accommodation costs for successful recipients living outside the metropolitan area.
As we now have four scholarships we have invited Notre Dame to participate which they were very happy about.
The scholarships will be advertised on the university website in the next few weeks so will be ready for applications for this academic year.
