During the month of September, we heard some very interesting thumbnails from two of our members, Steve Carson who gave us a brief snapshot of the places he worked around the world, as well as Jacquie Heron talking about her Vocation, Physiotherapy, which was very timely, especially as Monday 8th September, was World Physiotherapy Day. We also had a visit from our District Governor, Veronica Lawrence.
The Rotary Club of Melville was also presented with two awards from Rotary International, the Club Excellence Award for 2024-25 and the Recognition of our Donation to Foundation.
On Wednesday 24th September, 2025, three Melville Rotarians (PDG David Barton, PP Phillip Draber and myself were present at the handing over a cheque of approx. $38,000 from the Hon Kim Giddens to the South of Perth Yacht Club for the Sailability which this club supports and is involved in. The Sailability programme is run in several yacht clubs around Australia, and can also be called “Sail into Life”. PDG David Barton introduced the “Sail Into Life” programme into the South of Perth Yacht Club in 2010 and it has continued ever since under the banner of Sailability.
The upcoming programme of speakers for the Wednesday meetings in October 2025 are as follows, and we hope to see as many as possible to hear the guest speakers.

Jacquie Heron
Jacquie has been a physiotherapist for over fifty years. Her first job was a Charlie Gander hospital, where she was selected to be involved in a musculo-therapy course and really enjoyed it.
While raising a family, Jacquie continued doing locum work in various practices, and began her own practice 35 years ago in Albany, before coming back to Perth and setting up her purpose built
Jacquie talked about the various areas where physiotherapy can be used, such as in sports, and preparation for childbirth. She also gave us an example of one of her exercise classes for older people to help keep them moving, and that there are five people in that class over the age of 90, with the oldest being 95 years.
Jacquie’s work gives her job satisfaction and is rewarding when she sees the outcome of her work, such as people moving better, and it is why she still continues to work.

Some of our members attended a Cyber Security Briefing talk by the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday 17th September, 2025, and learnt a lot about the need to be protected from cyber attacks in our businesses.
