Formerly known as New Generations Month, it highlights the contributions of young people and the programs that help them grow into responsible, service-oriented leaders. The month emphasizes that the future is shaped by youth who are supported, mentored, and given opportunities to lead.
Rotary International offers several youth-focused programs.
- Interact: Clubs for high school students aged 12–18 that promote leadership, teamwork, and service-mindedness.
- Rotaract: Service clubs for young adults aged 18–30, often community- or university-based.
- RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards): Intensive leadership training for youth and young adults.,
- Youth Exchange: Cultural exchange programs enabling students to live and study abroad.
During May, we have continued to zoom at our lunchtime meetings, in order to include those who are unable to be physically in the room. If you are able to come to the meeting in person, you also gain the social aspect, and also it is good to have a reasonable audience for the guest speaker, to make it worth their while. Many thanks to the Membership and PR Director for providing the equipment and organising this facility.
Joshua Quek was the guest speaker at the Rotary meeting on Wednesday 14th May, and demystified AI for us.
Ann Bray was the guest speaker on May 27th
and informed us about the National Science Challenge which occurred from the 11th to 16th May. This programme as a national STEM outreach programme presented by the University of Newcastle Six members of the Rotary club of Melville including Trevor Ridgwell, Anne Anderson, David Porter, Em Charlton, Jacquie Heron and Marilyn Barton
Epic Day of Service Saturday 16th May, 2026
A number of members of the club, including Peter Smith, David Porter, Trevor Ridgwell, Carolyn Cook, Em Charlton, Jacquie Heron, Janice Pounder, Em Charlton’s friend, Kaye and Marilyn Barton assisted in the Epic day of Service. The project for our eleven clubs was to clean up the foreshore from Cockburn through to the City of Perth, with each club having one section. Many thanks to Em for organising our section.
Four Couple’s Dinners
The Four Couple Dinners are now underway, and we have already had several reports back about how and where their groups met, and the enjoyable time they had getting to know each other in varied and interesting places.
