JULY 2022 BULLETIN

Welcome to this months bulletin:

President's Ponderings:

Well it has certainly been a busy month since my last report.
I recently attended a Rotary Zone Meeting and when presenting on some of our club projects I almost became overwhelmed by the number of things our club is trying to do and I have to say I think other clubs in our zone were a bit gobsmacked by our objectives. They couldn’t help but imagine the impact to our community by your ideas.
Every committee has plans afoot and are meeting to put their limited budgets to good use. Unfortunately with the weather and the way the Covid is going it may be a bit slim financially from a market perspective until winter has gone.
I would request each committee keeps a contingency in their respective limited budget so that if the inevitable unplanned project come along and it is something that you wish to do then the opportunity to assist can be taken. Committee meetings are important but if longer than an hour they diminish from an impact perspective so do try and keep them short. I will try and get to each of the Committee meetings where I can throughout the year.
From a weekly club meeting perspective we have heard a few member thumbnails which have been really interesting. I even learnt something about a member that I didn’t know and I thought I knew him fairly well! I have been astounded by the diversity of what is a really interesting group of people. The great part is that these are our members in our club who have done terrific things and most of us have no idea as to the background of the member they are having fellowship with (other than reading their occupation on their badge) but when you hear their account of life it can be extraordinary.
Of course we have had a number of non-Rotarian speakers present to our club who are giving back to the community simply because they wish to help and found a vehicle to achieve their aim. Even at this early stage I thank Graham Wheeler for his effort arranging those quality speakers. So if you do have someone who you think would be interesting to hear from give their details to Graham and he will arrange a suitable date.
Some events coming up in the short term are:   From a zone perspective we have the Comedy for a Cause night on 19th & 20th August.  Also the President’s Cocktail night at David Porters house at 8 Pleasant Place, Shelley on Monday 8th August,2022 looks to be a great event. At $15 per person entry and provided you bring along you own favourite tipple, we can salute the new Rotary Year and recognize the last. Please let me know if you are coming or not for catering purposes.
Also please note the set up/take down roster and chairperson for the Rotary meetings is on Clubrunner as is the markets roster. If you are not able to do the allocated task on your rostered day please arrange for someone to do it for you.
Finally thank you for the variety of Sergeants who have been seconded whilst our Sergeant Greg has been away. Your assistance has been invaluable. Nice to have you back Sergeant.
In the meantime……………………………..thank you for helping your communities through your various fabulous projects!

The Rotary Club of Melville joined multiple clubs around the world to welcome Tel Aviv Elbrus to the Rotary Family. At a lunchtime meeting a group of Melville Rotarians made a video congratulating The Tel Avis Rotary Club on their charter into Rotary.  The club is made up of Ukranian and Russian nationalities who came together to form the new club.  If you click on the link below you can watch the full video of clubs from around the world sending congratulation messages.

Sam's Spares

Sam and family gave a talk at our lunchtime meeting on Monday 11th July.  Sam and his family have aspergeres and wanted to give back to the community in some way, so as a family set up a business recycling old computers.  The computers are donated and Sam fixes them and they are donated to schools or charity organisations.  If you would like to read more log on to:
